Elizana-Marie Joseph is a Master of Public Health candidate at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. She is interested in issues related to sexual and reproductive health, health policy, global health, and social determinants of health. Elizana attend the University of Rochester where she earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Public Health and English. Her studies and experiences working in low resource, culturally diverse, community health settings have influenced her desire to use various communication methods as tools to advance human rights, social justice, and health equity.
Elizana is a vibrant and passionate leader who has been recognized for her commitment to helping others. She believes in the power of civic engagement and using one’s abilities to be an agent of positive change. Elizana currently works as an HIV PrEP Specialist/Case Manager and serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors for YWCA Binghamton and Broome County. As an AmeriCorps Service Member, Elizana worked to support community prevention and treatment efforts related to the opioid epidemic through targeted evidence-based programming, health education, coalition building, and Narcan trainings. In that role, she also spearheaded the creation of a local documentary highlighting families impacted by the opioid crisis.
Elizana actively works to create inclusive spaces where diverse, intersectional voices are valued and celebrated. She is excited to contribute her perspectives as a Fellow for the Harvard Public Health Review.
