Our Panelist

Dr. Maria Uloko,
Founder and CEO, Vulvai

Dr. Maria Uloko is a urologist who specializes in comprehensive sexual health, encompassing the medical and surgical management of sexual health for all genders. Her expertise ranges from menopause management to complex erectile dysfunction. Dr. Uloko is regarded as a world leader in chronic pelvic pain and vulvar conditions. She is a strong advocate for improving the quality of life of her patients by providing a comprehensive, compassionate, and inclusive approach to often stigmatized subjects.

 

An internationally award-winning researcher, Dr. Uloko focuses on vulvar health, most notably her research in defining the number of nerves in the human clitoris. She served as the inaugural director of the Vulvar Sexual Health Clinic at UCSD, the first academic urology program in the country for women’s sexual health, and as the Director of DEI for Graduate Medical Education.

 

Dr. Uloko completed a fellowship in comprehensive sexual health with a focus on prosthesis and reconstruction at San Diego Sexual Medicine and Scripps. She completed residencies in urology and general surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis and earned her medical degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine. She is a member of the American Urologic Society, the Society of Sexual Medicine North America, the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health, and the International Society of Sexual Medicine.

Dr. Candice Carpenter

Dr. Candice Carpenter is Co-Founder, Co-Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Strategy Officer of The Boston Public Congress of Public Health, and also serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of HPHR Journal. She has been a UCLA Biodesign Fellow since Fall 2023.

Ms. Emmy Dunsford-Hernandez

Ms. Emmy Dunsford-Hernandez is the Biodesign Innovation Hub Coordinator at the UCLA Biodesign Fellowship, Director of Partnership and Ecosystem Development with SaludConTech, and Clinical Specialist for Veris Health Cancer Biotech.
