In his article published in the LA Tribune, he advocated for expanding telehealth and ensuring access to care for all addiction patients during the pandemic. In a subsequent LA Tribune article, he interviewed world-renowned addiction expert, Anna Lembke, MD of Stanford University to highlight the urgent need for a national response to the opioid crisis. Dr. Ramsey also delivered the keynote speech entitled “Addiction: a chronic condition of the brain, not a moral failing or a lack of willpower.” at the 2021 Toufik’s World International Conference.
Prior to his current roles, he served as the Alt-Resident Representative to the Board of Directors at the NY State Academy of Family Physicians and a Board Member of its Operations Commission as well as its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Taskforce. He was also a research fellow at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School as well as a college professor at various institutions.
Our understanding of addiction has changed over time thanks to scientific advancements. The solution begins by properly viewing addiction as a primary, chronic disorder of brain reward, motivation, memory, and related circuitry. Dysfunction in these circuits leads to characteristic biological, psychological, social, and spiritual manifestations.
