Getting Curious with Sherry

Sherry Wu (she/her/hers; based in Seattle, WA) is a Master of Public Health candidate at the University of Washington in the Community-Oriented Public Health Practice cohort. Prior to graduate school, Sherry was a Registered Social Worker on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations also known as Vancouver, Canada.

An advocate with a strong sense of justice, Sherry has worked on the frontline of the opioid epidemic supporting marginalized populations for their right to adequate housing, safer drug use and supplies, and fair treatment in the healthcare and justice system. She has contributed further evidence for the decriminalization of sex work through her published research as part of a decade-long community-based research project evaluating the impacts of evolving legislations on migrant sex workers’ occupational safety and human right. Recently, Sherry and a small team of mental health professionals led the development, coordination, and delivery of a provincial response team that has been providing psychosocial support, education, and consultation for frontline healthcare workers in long-term care and other continuing care settings most impacted by the pandemic. Sherry has a curiosity for people and their stories and is passionate about using her position and privilege to amplify the voices of those who are often silenced. She is excited to transition into public health to create collaborative, sustainable, and equitable programs to improving health outcome that are truly by the community for the community.
